2. Learn Swahili Before You Land: From Wenseslaus Nicholaus Ngowi
The Swahili language is of Bantu (African) origin. The word "Swahili" means "the coast". It has borrowed words from Arabic and Portuguese including "lesa" (handkerchief), "meza" (table), "gereza" (prison), "pesa" (money) and many more. For centuries, Swahili has remained the language of the people of East Africa coast.
Here are some terms that may help you at the immigration desk.
Mimi ni raia wa... (I am a citizen of...)
Pasi yako iko wapi? (Where is your passport?)
Hii hapa. (Here it is.)
Leo ni joto sana. (It is a hot day today.)
Itachukua muda gani? (How long will it take?)
Naomba unielekeze msalani? (Where are the restrooms?)
Habari ya kazi? (How is work?)
