1. Wildlife Update

The annual Serengeti wildebeest migration has now reached the Serengeti/Ngorongoro border. The migration is currently moving from the southern part of the Serengeti to the Gol Kopjes, also a popular territory for cheetahs. Visitors to this area may see a cheetah take down a wildebeest. The annual migration is made up of 1.2 million wildebeest and zebra that makes its way from the Maasai Mara in Kenya to the southern border of Tanzania's Serengeti National Park.

In January, a Duma guide saw a large python kill a female impala. The lion grabbed the impala from the python while the python was waiting for the impala to die. Although the snake tried to chase the lion, it was no match for the lion's speed.

2. Tsunami in Tanzania

The devastating December 26 tsunami affected the coastal region of Tanzania. In Dar es Salaam, ten people died, five of whom were school children. Several fishing boats were overturned and the price of fish skyrocketed as fewer fishermen went out to sea. In Zanzibar, there were reports of 'strange tides' and reduced water clarity. We hope that you and yours are safe.

3. Site Changes

You may have noticed a more standards compliant site for Duma Explorer. It's a small part of the redesign effort we're undertaking to make sure the site is XHTML compliant. We're also adding fun features like a random photo each time you visit the homepage. Be sure to check out www.dumaexplorer.com and look around!
