From the Ngorongoro crater to the beaches of Pemba, Duma Explorer took me to places I could barely believe were real. The Ngorongoro crater was without a doubt the most beautiful place I'd ever been, and Vumbawimbi beach by far the most pristine. My trip to Tanzania was absolutely perfect, thanks in large part to Duma Explorer.
Duma's knowledgeable staff and uniquely excellent service make Duma the obvious choice for any trip to Tanzania. What really sets them apart for me, though, what makes you feel really good about hiring them, is their longstanding commitment to the betterment of Tanzania and its people. In an industry full of foreign businesses who export all their profits, Duma is a Tanzanian company, owned and operated.
Not only that, but Duma is a regular contributor to a very special primary school in the Arusha area. I taught at Shinda Basic School for over a month during my stay in Tanzania, and I can't think of a more deserving cause. In an area where there are simply not enough schools for all of the eager students, Shinda is providing innovative and diverse English medium education. The money that Duma has contributed thus far has already accomplished extraordinary things. They are contributing to the self-sustainability of the school by helping to set up a brick-making project, which provides bricks for new classrooms and extra income for the school.
I'm grateful to Duma Explorer for going out of their way to show me the Tanzania that doesn't appear in the guidebooks (especially Pemba and Misali)! While you're there, go see what they're doing at Shinda, and if you can, stay a while. Try teaching on the foothills of Mount Meru, it's the only thing better than the endless white sands of Vumbawimbi, I promise.
