Meet Ibrahim Joseph

Ibrahim has been guiding regularly for Duma since 2023 and has quickly become an invaluable member of our safari team. Guests and colleagues alike know him for his positive energy, collaborative spirit, and the extra touches he brings to every game drive — from elaborate bush lunches to expertly positioning the vehicle for the perfect photography angle.

In April 2025, Ibrahim joined our guide team for an intensive training programme in Mkomazi National Park, led by EcoTraining, South Africa's leading guide training company. The course covered in-depth modules on safari planning and execution, wildlife identification, animal behaviour, ecology, botany, and conservation.

Ibrahim is now working toward his FGASA (Field Guides Association of Southern Africa) Level 1 certification, officially known as the Apprentice Field Guide (NQF2). Very few guides operating in Tanzania hold this level of training, making Ibrahim — and our team — a rare exception in East Africa.

Meet Your Guide: Ibrahim ("Ibu")

Tanzania's "Bush Master" & Serengeti Specialist

Guiding Since: 2015
Years with Duma: 3 years
Specialties: Wildlife Expert, Passionate Tracker, Photography Assistant

I started my journey in tourism in 2015. After spending two years as a carpenter & joinery in Ikona Game Reserve. My passion for wildlife began while constructing the Grumeti Hills Lodge -the Interactions with wild animals gave me a love for nature and wildlife in general. I then joined The Wildlife & Hospitality Management College in Arusha and over time it grew into a career. I worked 4 years just in Serengeti National Park as resident Guide & Balloon representative. This is where I became "Bush master" and learned to share Tanzania’s beauty with people from all over the world.

My Favorite Spot: Kirawira (Western Serengeti) during the green season. It’s peaceful, full of elephants, big cats, and the Grumeti River crossing. Stunning sunsets!

My Unforgettable Moment: A male cheetah sat right on my vehicle's bonnet on February 17, 2026! Everything was quiet, then full of action. I realized how loud nature can speak.

The Soundtrack: Circle of Life & Jambo Bwana. These songs really match the feeling of being out in the savannah.

Top Training: FGASA. This is a tough certification that prepared me to keep guests safe even in remote environments.

My favorite Swahili proverb: “Pole pole ndio mwendo”—it means slowly is the way to go. It reminds us to enjoy the journey, trust the process, and not rush the reconnecting with nature.

My favorite Tanzanian meal: If you dined at my home I would serve Ugali with Nyama Choma. It’s simple, authentic, and brings people together.

Customer Testimonials

  • For our Safari Tour, my family and I could not have asked for a better experience with our guides, Isaack and Ibu. They took incredible care of us and made sure we all had a phenomenal time. There are so many different Safari tour companies, but what makes Duma special to me is the people. Isaack has decades of experience, and it shows in his patience, conversational style, storytelling, and overall vast knowledge of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the Serengeti, and wildlife. Ibu likewise was relatable, funny, very knowledgeable, and had a consistently positive attitude and demeanor. They work well together as a team, and I hope anyone deciding to work with this company can have a chance to go on a Safari with either, or both, of them. I highly recommend working with Stacy and this team for either a Safari tour or trekking Mt. Kilimanjaro!

  • Our guide Ibrahim was the absolute best. He knew his stuff so well. Absolute gem of a guide. Also gave me a lesson on off roading / how to use 4 wheel drive properly! He navigated those roads without getting stuck. We saw other jeeps that had gotten stuck but Ibrahim was too experienced for that.

  • We had an incredible experience on safari in Tanzania which included Arusha, Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Central and Northern Serengeti. Our guides Isack and Ibrahim were spectacular; friendly, knowledgeable, and always were able to get us to where the animals were; all boxes were checked! They couldn't have been more wonderful.

  • We had an amazing 7 day safari in Northern Tanzania (Tangarire, Ngorongoro, Southern, Central and Northern Serengeti) with Duma / Alika Africa. Right from the beginning, Stacy was incredible to work with. She was very responsive, flexible and personalized our trip to our preference. It's obvious that she has extensive experience with the area, and was therefore able to really help plan a wonderful trip. Our guide Ibrahim was amazing and dynamic and was constantly adapting each day's itinerary according to our preferences and his reads on how the weather and wildlife would behave. The lodges and tent camps we stayed in were all pretty decked out (considering where we were) and we had the most amazing interactions with all the wildlife that the Serengeti and Tanzania has to offer. We saw literally thousands of zebras, various antelope, along with hundreds of elephants, giraffe. We also had several sightings of lions including some with tiny cubs, and saw a leopard and a cheetah with her cubs as well. Ibrahim was also incredible in tracking the wildebeest and we saw them crossing the river which will remain one of the most memorable experiences of my life.

  • My husband and I just returned from a 7 day safari in Tanzania and 2 day gorilla trek/golden monkey trek in Rwanda that Duma Explorer (Stacy) had planned for us. It was amazing! We reached out to many companies regarding our trip and Stacy was the only one who was able to curate the perfect itinerary that included all the locations we wanted to visit for the amount of time we wanted to visit and the accommodations we wanted. All within our budget! Nothing disappointed. Ibrahim was our guide in Tanzania and he was absolutely amazing. He was super knowledgeable (knew every animal and plant we drove by), told us where to take all the best photos, curated small moments like sunset snacks and a bush lunch that just made everything feel so special. The Duma/Alika team makes you feel like you are the most important client, which made this such a remarkable experience. Highly recommend using Duma/Alika for your next trip!
